I love sports. I played numerous sports as a kid. I still do in my middle age. My kids play competitive sports now and I coach. It is among the most rewarding things in my life right now. The benefits to kids: physical, social and emotional are unrivaled. But the obsession with travel sports and elite teams and year round specialization and college scholarships is idiotic and unhealthy, for the kids and families. If you cannot find a good game (name the sport) within an hours drive you are not looking hard enough. Unless perhaps you live in Alaska or Montana.
