Education in America is in crisis. For years the public primary education system has been failing it’s customers, the children, badly. But the US could always hold up its universities and colleges as the best in the world. Not any more. Besides many being leftist-run indoctrination tanks where students learn little and the only hard thing about them is getting in, we learned this week that rich elites and their intermediaries fraudulently get their precious progeny in through fraud.
Here is the straight dope: going to college and getting an education are not the same things. The truth is, many “elite” schools are that in name only. Yes, they attract many of the best and brightest, but they also attract a lot of rich lip-strumming morons who could not screw in a light bulb with instructions. Full disclosure: I went to an “elite” midwestern private school years ago. I received a fine education but the same one I could have gotten at many other schools. The most valuable thing about attending an “elite” school is the reputation and contacts…always has been. Now, that is increasingly the only benefit as in some cases the education being received is inferior.
Having spent years in business, some of the laziest, least ethical and frankly dumbest people I have ever encountered went to Ivy League schools, while some of the most accomplished went to garden-variety state schools. But state schools are not exempt from criticism either. Many have become bastions of PC SJW leftism while shirking their primary responsibility: educating the residents of their state. Many preference out of state and foreign students in the name of “diversity” so they can rake in higher tuition fees. The whole system has become horribly corrupt.
If you want your kids to get a top education, not simply a sheepskin from an elite university, I strongly suggest looking at small private colleges, Christian colleges, or the exceptional research institutions like MIT, Cal Tech, Rice, ect. These schools still seem to provide an excellent classical education and have not gotten caught up in all the campus leftism.
